Loon Survey

Birds Canada is inviting anyone who regularly visits a Canadian lake to participate in their Canadian Lakes Loon Survey. Participants are asked to monitor chick hatch and survival on their lake by noting and reporting in June if loon pairs are on their lake, and then in July observing if any chicks hatched and then in August reporting if chicks have survived long enough to fledge. The Birds Canada website

has lots of information about loons and their breeding habits, how to protect them and even how to build a loon nesting platform.
